Marine Survey Types

Pre-Purchase Survey

This is the most comprehensive type of inspection and is strongly advised when purchasing a new or used vessel. Condition and overall operation of the vessel should be examined. This covers structural system, electrical systems (AC & DC), the propulsion system, the fuel system, other machinery, navigation equipment, on-board systems, cosmetic appearance, electronics, and overall maintenance as well as an out-of-water inspection and a sea trial (if requested).

Insurance Survey

This inspection is performed so the insurance company can determine whether or not the vessel is an acceptable risk. They are interested in the vessels compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. They are also interested in the structural integrity and the safety of the vessel for its intended usage.

Marina Entry Survey

This inspection is performed to help determine whether a vessel meets the requirements for acceptance into a marina. It typically focuses on the overall condition of the vessel, safety equipment, structural integrity, and compliance with marina rules and applicable regulations. A marina entry survey helps identify any issues that may need to be addressed before the vessel is approved for docking or storage.
